Cherkess
Cherkess is the story of the arrival of some Circassian families to Amman (later the capital of Jordan) around the beginning of the 20th century. It reveals the conflicts that can occur when two totally different cultures meet in one geographic space; In this case the Caucasian culture with the Bedouin Arab culture and how they find accommodation and understanding through dialogue. But then water Rights become a critical problem which leads to troubles. The Circassians are mostly farmers and they settle by the Amman stream. But this has always been the Bedouins watering place for their livestock and camels. Entwined into the narrative is a delicate but potentially dangerous love story between a Circassian boy and a Bedouin maiden; a Romeo & Juliette story bit with a happier ending.
